The beginning level of Health Sciences is a unique and elite experiences for high school students who are interested in the Health Science industry.
Students will have the opportunity to explore multiple sectors of the Health industry as well as identify the link between post-secondary education and potential careers.
The Health Sciences program uses sound learning theory and leading edge instructional technology, called HealthCentre21. This online program features standards-based curriculum, interactive multi-media, hands-on activities, authentic assessments, teacher management tools, and curriculum customization.
This course prepares students for careers in the health care field. Students will acquire the basic skills and knowledge to work in multiple areas of health care, both within the hospital and in the community. For those students preparing for a career in the health sciences, the study of anatomy and physiology provides the foundation needed to support clinical experiences.
Topics covered include: Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Musculoskeletal System, Health Care Systems, Wellness & Nutrition, Rehabilitation & Restorative Care, Infection Control, Bloodborne Pathogens, Integumentary Systems, Special Populations, Patient Assessment, The Health Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, Office Environment, Legal & Ethical Responsibilities, Health Care Careers, Medical Mathematics, and Safety Precautions.
Students will be encouraged to complete Standard First Aid with Level C CPR + AED through St. John’s Ambulance.
A caring and mature work ethic is important for success in this course.
